Preschool Offers a Short List for the Best Local Beaches This Summer

Posted on 08-03-2016

Summer is upon us and there is no shortage of sunny days and active kiddos looking for things to do. One of the most popular summer outings for Floridians is a day trip or weekend getaway to one of our local beaches. At Kids R Kids of Circa/ Fishhawk, we know how valuable those family getaways are and we want to make sure you have the best time possible wherever you go. Since the Tampa Bay area is in close proximity to so many beaches, we wanted to help narrow the choice of options to make planning your family beach trip a little easier. Here is our short list of 3 great beaches, close to Brandon, that you’ll have to check out this summer.

Clearwater Beach a bustling, energetic beach atmosphere

Just a short drive from I-275 onto the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Clearwater Beach is the perfect spot for your family to make a day trip to the beach. If you get an early start, you can stop to visit Winter, the dolphin from the movie Dolphin Tale, at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Once you make it to the beach, your kids won’t have any trouble finding friends to build sandcastles with, and you also have the option of renting equipment like water-bikes, paddle boards, and even jet skis, all right by Pier 60. When you’re hungry for lunch, you can treat the whole family to somefamous grouper sandwiches at Frenchy’s, right on the beach. End the evening with in the mini carnival atmosphere at Sunsets at Pier 60, where the whole family can watch street performers, live music and a craft market.

Fort Desoto Park Quiet. Historic. Serene.

Fort Desoto gives parents a much more private alternative to Clearwater, and it’s still close. Take I-275 to St. Petersburg, then follow the Pinellas Bayway onto State Highway 679. The island provides an opportunity to introduce your little one to the rich history of Florida before they even start Preschool! Take a quick tour of the island’s historic coquina fort and the Fort Desoto Batteries. There are huge pavilions where everyone, even the family dog, can get out of the sun for a picnic. There’s also a huge stretch of beach where dogs can play off-leash and swim in the water. Fort Desoto makes an excellent weekend getaway because of the 238 Campsites on the island. Watch your children play in the shallow tidal pools, or rent a canoe and take them through the islands lagoons and kayak trails that maze through the park’s campground. And if you’re looking to vary the cultural experience, the Dali Museum isn’t far away and offers a truly unique experience of viewing the bizarre artwork of the famous painter – not to mention a little break from the heat of the Florida sun.

Anna Maria Island The Bay Area’s best kept secret

If you want to take a day (or week) off from Daycare, an island oasis is only an hour’s drive south on I-75 onto Tamiami Trail. Floridians have been visiting this laid-back beach town for generations. Take your kids hunting for seashells on the island’s Coquina Beach, where every tide brings in a mosaic of millions of shells, or watch them chase after fiddler crabs along the shore. Make a stop for brunch at the Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe… their Belgian waffles are incredible. And if you’re looking for a great spot to fish, you can take your junior anglers to the Rod & Reel Pier on the north side of the island, where something is always biting. If they leave the pier empty handed, it just a short trip across the street to Two Scoops. A delicious ice cream cone is sure to top off their day, maybe even with sprinkles.

Summer trips to the beach can be a fountain of memories that will last a lifetime.
